St Stephen's (CofE) Church Burnley

The church sits right in Burnley town centre, a proper Victorian Gothic structure that you can't miss if you're wandering round. St Stephen's is the parish church, red sandstone and solid, the kind of building that actually looks like it belongs there rather than feeling tacked on. Inside, there's decent stained glass and the usual church architecture - high ceilings, wood panelling, that specific smell churches have. The main appeal here is if you're into 19th-century ecclesiastical design or you're doing a bit of local history. Families might spend twenty minutes having a look round, though children will likely get restless unless you're really keen on explaining Victorian craftsmanship. There's no entry charge as far as I can tell, and you can usually get in during daylight hours, though it's worth checking ahead because church opening times can be erratic. If you're based at Trawden Forest Glamping - only five miles away - St Stephen's makes a decent rainy day detour when you're popping into Burnley proper for supplies or a coffee. Don't plan your entire trip around it though. The real value is as part of a bigger wander through town, checking out the mill heritage and grabbing lunch somewhere decent. Worth half an hour if you're passing, but probably not worth driving out specifically.
