St Peter

The church sits on a rise just outside Presteigne, a solid grey-stone building that's been here since medieval times. Inside, it's all high ceilings and flagstone floors, with decent stained glass and a good few monuments dotted about the walls - the sort of local history you only really absorb by wandering round and reading the plaques.

It's the kind of stop that works best if you're already in the area rather than a destination in itself. History buffs will find enough to occupy half an hour; families might manage twenty minutes before the children start eyeing the door. The churchyard's pleasant enough for a quick walk round, especially if the weather's decent.

If you're staying at Rockbridge Park just down the road, St Peter makes a sensible addition to a morning - grab a coffee in Presteigne itself, visit the church, and you've got an easy couple of hours sorted. The town's got enough character to make it worth a proper explore too, shops and cafes included. No great hike required, just a gentle potter around somewhere with actual depth to it, unlike some tourist attractions that look good in a photo and that's your lot. Worth the detour if you're passing, less worth planning your whole trip around.
