The church sits in Wigton's centre, a solid Victorian structure that anchors this quiet market town in the Solway Plain. St Paul's isn't ancient - it dates from the 1860s - but it's well-maintained and worth a quick visit if you're passing through on the way to one of the nearby holiday parks.

Inside, it's fairly standard Victorian Anglican fare: good proportions, decent stained glass, and that particular hushed calm you get in churches built during the age of certainty. The architecture is competent rather than inspiring, but there's something unpretentious about it. It serves the town properly, which is rather the point.

You'll want to allow about twenty minutes here, less if you're not interested in the detail work. It's free to enter, though opening times aren't always obvious - do check locally with Wigton's tourist information or ask at nearby shops. History enthusiasts will find more significant medieval churches elsewhere in Cumbria, but if you're staying at Solway Holiday Park or Stanwix Park and want a gentle walk into town, this makes a reasonable stop. The churchyard is pleasant enough for a few minutes of wandering too.

Not a destination in itself, then, but a perfectly respectable parish church that tells you something about Victorian Wigton. Families with bored teenagers should probably skip it - there's nothing interactive here. Better as part of a town exploration than as a standalone trip.
