Standing proud on a hill overlooking Weymouth Bay, this ancient parish church commands one of the finest coastal views in Dorset. The medieval tower rises above the surrounding countryside, and on a clear day you can see right across to Portland Bill from the churchyard.

History buffs will appreciate the Norman origins and Saxon foundations, though the building has been much altered over the centuries. The real draw here isn't the architecture - it's serviceable rather than spectacular - but that tremendous panorama from the elevated position. Photographers particularly love the golden hour shots looking west over the bay.

Families staying at nearby parks like Haven Seaview or Waterside at Bowleaze Cove often make the short drive up for the views alone. The kids might not be thrilled by the church itself, but they'll enjoy spotting boats in the harbour below and planes approaching the nearby airfield.

Allow about 30 minutes unless you're planning a proper countryside walk from here - there are several footpaths leading off into the Dorset hills. The church is usually open during daylight hours, though like many rural parishes, it's worth checking locally if you're specifically wanting to see inside. Honestly though, most visitors come for that cracking view rather than the interior.
