St Mawgan Church

The church sits in a proper little valley just outside St. Mawgan village, tucked away enough that you'd miss it if you weren't looking. Medieval stonework, fifteenth-century tower, and the kind of peaceful churchyard where you can actually hear yourself think - a rarity around these parts. Inside, it's all cool stone and that particular smell of old English churches. The stained glass is decent without being show-offy.

This is one for people who actually care about Cornwall's religious architecture rather than those just ticking boxes on a holiday. History buffs will spend twenty minutes properly. Families with young kids? They'll get restless after five. The churchyard itself is worth a wander if the weather's holding - proper quiet spot for a breather between beach days.

Free to visit, no daft opening hours to wrestle with. Spring is lovely here when the daffodils are still about. Autumn's good too if you don't mind the occasional drizzle.

It works well if you're based at one of the nearby parks - Sun Haven's less than a mile away, and Watergate Bay Touring Park is just up the road. Makes for a gentle morning stop before heading to Newquay proper or off to Watergate Bay itself. Not a full-day attraction by any means, but genuine local flavour rather than the usual tourist-trap stuff. Worth the detour if you're in the area, rather than worth planning a trip around.
