You'll find St Mary's tucked away in Beverley, a proper medieval church that's been standing since the 14th century. Walking in, the scale of it catches you off guard - soaring columns, intricate stonework, and a roof that makes you crane your neck backward without meaning to. The stained glass is exceptional, particularly the east window. It's the kind of place where you can spend twenty minutes just staring upward or three hours if you're seriously into ecclesiastical architecture.

Historically minded visitors will get the most from a visit here. The detail work - misericords, boss carvings, the sheer craftsmanship - rewards close inspection. It's not a major tourist draw, which means you won't be fighting crowds on a weekend, and that's rather the point. Kids might find it impressive for the novelty factor, though it's not the sort of place to keep under-tens entertained for long.

Access is straightforward from Beverley town centre. Admission appears free, though donations are gratefully received. Allow an hour minimum if you're properly looking around; less if you're just popping in to get a sense of it.

If you're based at Cherry Burton Leisure Park nearby, St Mary's makes an excellent half-day outing, particularly if you're mixing in a wander around Beverley itself. The town has character beyond the church - good pubs, independent shops - so you won't feel like you've made a special trip just for the building.
