St Lukes Reigate

The church sits right in the heart of Reigate, a solid stone building that's been standing watch over the town since medieval times. Inside, the space feels genuinely lived-in rather than museum-like - high ceilings, proper stained glass, and that particular smell of old wood and stone that you only get in churches this age. The chancel's worth a proper look if you're into ecclesiastical architecture, and there are some decent monuments dotted about if you've got an interest in local history.

It's the sort of place that works best if you're already in Reigate town centre doing other things - popping in for twenty minutes rather than making a special trip. Fair warning though: unless you're genuinely keen on church interiors or local heritage, you'll exhaust what's on offer fairly quickly. The real draw here is the sense of continuity, the knowledge that people have been worshipping in this exact spot for centuries.

If you're staying at Henfold Lakes just five miles away, combining this with a wander around Reigate town centre makes for a perfectly reasonable half-morning. The nearby Gatwick Caravan and Motorhome Club site is slightly less appealing on the facilities front, but equally close if you're based there. Admission appears to be free, which at least removes any financial barrier to having a look.
