St Levan Church

Walk down a steep lane lined with granite walls and you'll find yourself at one of Cornwall's most atmospheric churches, sitting practically on the clifftop above Porthcurno beach. St Levan Church dates back to the 12th century, though what strikes you isn't necessarily the dates - it's the raw, exposed feeling of the place. Weathered stone, a low-slung tower, and windows that frame the sea beyond. Inside, there's a medieval font and some proper atmospheric gloom that no amount of cleaning could shift.

This one's for anyone who wants their religion served with a side of geography. Walkers will appreciate it as a natural stopping point on the South Coast Path - the beach below is accessible and genuinely special. History types will find enough medieval fabric to justify the scramble down, though it's not a sprawling monument. Kids might fidget after ten minutes unless they're the sort who like clamoring over old gravestones and spotting the sea through the windows.

Free to visit, no fixed hours that I could pin down - check before you go if you want to catch it open. Allow 20 minutes to half an hour, longer if you're combining it with Porthcurno beach itself. The lane down is steep and narrow, so not ideal with a full pushchair.
