St Laurence

The church sits quietly on the high street in Petersfield, one of those medieval parish churches that most people walk straight past without a second glance. St Laurence is worth stopping for, though - it's got proper bones, with a 12th-century tower that's been watching over the town for nearly a thousand years.

Inside, the place has that particular smell of old stone and polish that takes you back. There's some decent medieval work if you look closely, and the kind of peaceful atmosphere that only happens in churches that are actually used for worship rather than run as tourist attractions. The chancel's the business end if you're into ecclesiastical architecture.

This isn't a day-long destination. You'll spend twenty minutes here, maybe half an hour if you're genuinely interested in period details. History buffs and anyone with a taste for English parish churches will appreciate it more than families with young kids, who'll get restless fast.

If you're staying at Adhurst Yurts just down the road - barely a mile away - it's an easy stroll into town. Combines well with Petersfield's town centre shops and cafes. Cedar Valley's a bit further out, but still close enough for a morning walk in if you fancy something different from your base. The church is free to visit and usually open during daylight hours, though worth checking locally if you're making a special trip. Don't expect a visitor centre or gift shop. Just a proper working church.
