St Just Library

St Just Library sits quietly on the high street of this working mining town, about four miles inland from Land's End. It's a proper local spot - the kind of place where you'll find locals browsing the Cornish interest section and kids sprawled on the floor with picture books. Nothing fancy, but that's rather the point.

You won't come here for the architecture or the crowds. What you get instead is a genuine feel for how the town ticks, plus a decent Cornish collection if you're interested in the area's mining heritage and local authors. The librarians know their stuff and aren't precious about helping visitors dig through the stacks.

It works well as a wet-weather stop if you're based at Lands End Camping & Glamping and the Atlantic decides to be moody - which, let's be honest, it often does. Spend thirty to forty minutes here, grab a book about Cornish folklore, maybe pick up a local history pamphlet. The kids can burn off some energy without anyone minding too much.

Free to use, naturally. Opening hours and facilities aren't always clearly signposted online, so ring ahead or ask at the tourist office in Penzance. Don't expect to lose an afternoon here, but if you're exploring the mining villages around St Just and need to warm up or sit down for a bit, it's a welcome refuge - and genuinely worth the five-minute wander from the car park.
