The church sits quietly at the heart of Killyleagh, a solid Victorian structure that demands you actually step inside rather than just snap a photo from the road. St John the Evangelist is a proper piece of local religious architecture - built in the 1800s with decent stained glass and the kind of peaceful interior that makes you understand why people bothered to restore these places.

It's not a destination in itself, frankly. You won't spend more than twenty minutes looking around unless you're genuinely into ecclesiastical detail. But if you're camping at Delamont Country Park just down the road - and it's barely a mile away - it's worth a quiet walk through the village to have a look. The churchyard is decent enough for a stroll, and you get a proper sense of how these small towns actually tick, beyond the holiday park gates.

Walkers and history types will find more satisfaction here than families with restless kids. The village of Killyleagh itself has a castle and a few decent pubs, so you could string together a proper afternoon. Downpatrick, the nearest proper town, is close enough for lunch if you need it.

Admission is typically free, as it is with most parish churches. Go in the daytime - you won't get in at night. If you're based at Buckshill or Castle Ward, both within a few miles, it makes for a gentle break from the campsite without requiring a full day's adventure. Don't expect drama. Expect quiet.
