The building itself dates back centuries, with enough medieval and Georgian touches to reward a quiet wander round the churchyard and a proper look inside. It's peaceful - the kind of spot where you can actually hear yourself think, which counts for something these days.

This is really one for people who enjoy church architecture and local history rather than anything flashy. There's no visitor centre, no gift shop, no performance schedule. You simply show up, have a look, and move on. Alford itself is only a few minutes away and has shops and a decent pub if you fancy lunch. Allow half an hour maximum here unless you're seriously into church monuments, then crack on. Free admission as far as I can tell, though visiting hours aren't widely advertised - best check locally when you arrive.
