The tower of St Dunstan's dominates Cranbrook's high street - you can't miss it, really. This is a proper fifteenth-century church, all soaring perpendicular Gothic with that distinctive tower that's become the village's unofficial symbol. Step inside and you're greeted by a space that feels genuinely medieval, not over-restored or sanitised. The interior has real character: intricate wooden roof beams, a decent collection of monuments, and windows that cast lovely light across the stone floor.

It's worth allowing half an hour for a proper look round, though you can dash in and out in ten minutes if you're pressed. There's something satisfying about seeing how a community building this substantial was back when Cranbrook was a proper wool town - the craftsmanship in the stonework isn't subtle. History buffs will appreciate the details; families with young children might find it quiet enough to explore without worrying about noise, though there's not much to actively do beyond looking.

If you're camping at nearby Glassenbury or Tanner Farm, St Dunstan's makes for a straightforward morning detour into the village centre. It's free to enter (donations appreciated, obviously), and there's parking on the high street. Go on a weekday morning if you can - fewer tourists, better light through the windows. Cranbrook itself is worth lingering in; the high street has proper independent shops and a decent pub or two, so you could make a half-day of it without feeling rushed.
