St Cyriac's Church

Medieval stonework and a proper working parish church - that's St Cyriac's in Lacock, just outside Chippenham. The building itself is the draw here: grade-listed, with that satisfying jumble of architectural periods you get in English churches that have been added to and fiddled with for centuries. The chancel's worth studying if you're into medieval craftsmanship, and there's enough detail in the stonework to keep history types genuinely engaged for half an hour.

This isn't a spectacle-and-move-on kind of place. It's quiet, functional, and honestly a bit austere in the way old village churches are. The churchyard's pleasant enough for a wander if you're that way inclined, and Lacock itself is worth the detour - proper chocolate-box village with cobbles and National Trust properties everywhere.

If you're camped at Piccadilly Caravan Park just down the road, it's literally a few minutes' drive away. The Devizes sites are also close enough to make this a viable morning stop before heading elsewhere. Free entry, naturally, though there's usually a honesty box for the upkeep.

Best suited to anyone with a genuine interest in church architecture or local history rather than families after a busy outing. Allow 30-45 minutes if you're going to do it properly. It works well as part of a wider Chippenham-area exploration - combine it with the village itself and you've got a pleasant half-day sorted.
