St Clement, Withiel

The church sits quietly in Withiel, a village most people speed past on the way to somewhere else. St Clement is one of those proper Cornish granite jobs - solid, unshowy, the kind of place that's been standing for centuries without needing to shout about it. Inside, there's medieval stonework, a few decent monuments, and that particular smell of old churches everywhere: damp stone, hymn books, and time itself.

It's genuinely worth a stop if you're into ecclesiastical architecture or local history, though you won't need more than twenty minutes here unless you're really keen on rubbing brass or photographing roof carvings. The churchyard's pleasant for a wander if the weather's decent.

The real appeal is location. Withiel sits between Egloshayle and some proper countryside, making it a natural pitstop during a park holiday in the area. Mena Farm is just three and a half miles away - close enough for a morning potter before heading back for a cuppa - while Trewan Hall and The Laurels give you more options if you're camping longer term. If you're staying around here and fancy something low-key and genuinely local rather than another tourist trap, this works. Kids might find it dull unless they're the type who enjoy poking around old graveyards, which some absolutely do.
