St Bridget's

The church sits quietly on the edge of Bridestowe village, just a few miles south of Okehampton, with the kind of unassuming charm that makes you wonder why more people don't wander in. St Bridget's is a proper rural Devon church - medieval bones with later additions, the sort of place where you can actually feel the weight of centuries without any fuss or fanfare.

Inside, the stone walls are cool and dim, the light filtering through windows that have seen generations come and go. There's an old font, worn flagstones, and that particular smell that only ancient churches have - dust, stone, something timeless. It's free to visit, naturally, and you won't need more than thirty minutes unless you're the type to sit and linger, which honestly, the atmosphere rather invites you to do.

This is the sort of place walkers stumble upon rather than seek out deliberately.
