St Bartholomew's Church

The flint and stone walls of St Bartholomew's Church rise unexpectedly from the quiet streets near Faversham's market square, looking rather more substantial than most village churches have any right to. Inside, the nave stretches back with that particular hush that only medieval buildings seem to manage - all soaring timber and filtered light through narrow windows. The tower's been there since the 12th century, though the church itself has been patched and extended plenty of times since.

It's genuinely interesting if you're into church architecture or local history. The wall monuments tell you proper stories about Faversham's medieval wool merchants and their families, and there's enough carved detail to keep you looking for a good twenty minutes or so. The chancel reward a close inspection if you can access it. It's not one of those Instagram-famous churches with stained glass you'll have seen a hundred times before - there's something honest about it.

Worth a stop if you're already in Faversham exploring the town centre, though I wouldn't make a special trip from Central Beach Holiday Park five miles away just for the church. Pair it with a wander round the abbey ruins nearby or the old market town itself, and you've got a proper half-hour outing. Free entry as far as I can tell, though opening hours aren't advertised anywhere obvious - best check locally or turn up during daylight. Go on a weekday morning if you want it quiet.
