St. Andrew's

The church sits on a quiet corner in Callander, a proper sandstone building that's been watching over the town since medieval times. St. Andrew's has that solid, no-nonsense Scottish feel - the kind of place where you can almost sense centuries of worshippers moving through the same doorway. Inside, there's real character: the stonework's honest, the light comes in soft through the windows, and it's genuinely peaceful rather than trying too hard.

It's worth a stop if you're into church architecture or local history, but don't expect a major production. Thirty minutes covers it comfortably. The churchyard itself is pleasant for a wander, and there's something calming about seeing how names on the graves trace back generations of the same families.

Callander's already got plenty on its plate - the Trossachs nearby are spectacular for walking, and the town itself has decent shops and cafes. If you're staying at Callander Woods or Keltie Bridge, both excellent caravan parks within walking distance, St. Andrew's makes a quiet morning diversion before heading out for the day. It's the sort of place locals pop into during their lunch break rather than something that draws coach tours, which is rather nice. Not essential to your trip, but if you're interested in how communities actually lived rather than just sightseeing, it's worth your time.
