St Andrew's Church : East Heslerton

St Andrew's is worth a detour if you're staying at one of the glamping sites nearby - Lahtle Wood or Wolds Walk are practically on the doorstep - but don't expect crowds or visitor facilities. What you get is a proper working parish church with genuine medieval bones, the kind of place where you might be the only visitor on a Tuesday afternoon.

Inside, there's solid Norman architecture and the sort of accumulated detail that rewards a slow walk around. Brass plaques, old stone, light coming through narrow windows. Go when the light's decent - late morning or early afternoon - because the interior can be dim. Don't expect opening hours to be prominently displayed; it's a village church that opens when it opens.
