St Andrew & St Mary

The church of St Andrew and St Mary sits just outside Taunton, a solid medieval structure that creaks with five centuries of local life. You'll find a proper country church here - high ceilings, stone columns, and that particular smell of old stone and furniture polish that never quite leaves Anglican buildings. The twin dedication is unusual enough to catch your attention on the approach.

Inside, there's decent fifteenth-century work if you're into ecclesiastical architecture, though it's not so ornate that you'll spend hours photographing every arch. It works best for history types and church tracers doing a Somerset circuit. Families might find it interesting for twenty minutes, but the under-tens will get restless. Most of the year it's reasonably peaceful, though you might call ahead to check access times - village churches keep their own schedules.

If you're based at Holly Bush or Cornish Farm touring parks, it's barely a ten-minute drive into Taunton proper, making St Andrew and St Mary a good thirty-minute detour on your way to the town itself.
