Springfield Wood

A proper forest walk just outside Cupar, Springfield Wood offers the sort of peaceful woodland trail that Fife does rather well. You're talking mixed broadleaf and conifer plantation here - nothing dramatic, but solid ground underfoot and plenty of shade if the weather turns. The paths are well-maintained and easy enough for families with younger legs, though there's enough space to wander without feeling hemmed in by other visitors.

Walkers will get the most mileage out of this one. You can easily spend an hour or two looping through the trees without needing any prior planning or gear. It's the kind of place you pop into when you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - The Rings is barely three miles away, and both Wigwam Holidays Montrave Estate and Letham Feus Lodge are within spitting distance. Perfectly decent for burning off energy before dinner, or a quiet morning before heading into Cupar for lunch.

The woodland doesn't have major views or historical sites to hang your hat on. It's not Instagram material and older teenagers might find it a bit dull after thirty minutes. But that's rather the point - this is genuine, unstaged countryside. No entrance fees to worry about, no need to book, just trees and fresh air. If you're after a gentle break from the caravan during a Fife holiday, it does the job. Don't expect anything more than that, and you'll leave satisfied.
