Spider Park

The spider colony at Spider Park near Arbroath is genuinely unlike anything else in Scotland. You're walking through woodland specifically managed to support one of Britain's most impressive concentrations of spider species - we're talking hundreds of varieties, from tiny money spiders to proper huntsman-sized beasts that'll make arachnophobes reconsider everything.

What makes it work is the habitat design. The reserve has ponds, long grass, dead wood piles, and native trees left to their own devices. In autumn particularly, the webs catch the morning dew and the whole place looks like someone's thrown silver netting across the landscape. It's genuinely beautiful, not just weird.

This is absolutely the place for nature enthusiasts and anyone doing a serious wildlife photography run. Kids who are into insects will lose their minds. If you're just after a stroll with vague nature vibes though, it might feel a bit narrow - there's only so long you can peer at spider webs before moving on. Allow an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're properly engaged.

It's only five miles or so from The Grange Glamping if you're basing yourself there - solid enough to tag onto a longer Aberdeenshire park break rather than a standalone trip, but if you're genuinely into arachnids or macro photography, it's worth the drive from Arbroath.
