The old ironstone workings at Spiceball have been transformed into something rather special - a proper country park where nature's reclaimed what industry once took. You're looking at lakes, woodland, and grassland spread across what was once a working quarry, just outside Oxford. The walk around the water is straightforward enough, following paths that take you past the larger lake where you'll spot waterfowl and the occasional angler. If you've got kids, they'll burn off energy on the open spaces without you needing to worry too much about them wandering off the main routes.

It's a solid addition to a caravan park stay in Northamptonshire. The Park isn't going to knock your socks off with dramatic views or rare wildlife, but it's exactly what it sets out to be - accessible greenspace where families can walk, cycle, or just sit and watch the water. Allow a couple of hours if you're doing the full circuit at a leisurely pace. The free admission is a genuine bonus when you're camping nearby at somewhere like Anita's or Fir Tree, both within a few miles.

Who'll get most from it? Casual walkers and families wanting a straightforward afternoon out. Serious hikers will find it a bit tame. History buffs might be mildly interested in the industrial heritage aspect, but there's not much interpretation on site. Spring and early summer are your best bets - the lakes feel properly lively then. It's worth an hour or two, no question, but plan it as part of a broader day rather than as a destination in itself.
