Southdowns Church has that low-key appeal of Kent's medieval parish churches - nothing flashy, just proper old stonework and the kind of peace that makes you want to sit on a bench for longer than you'd meant to.

This works best as a quick stop rather than a destination in itself. If you're staying at Thriftwood Country Park nearby, it's an easy diversion on a walk into town. Families with young children might find it brief but pleasant; history types could spend a bit longer reading the stones. Best visited on a clear day when you can actually sit outside without getting soaked.
