South Poorton Nature Reserve

The walk into South Poorton Nature Reserve from Bridport takes you down a proper country lane, and it's one of those places where you genuinely don't know what you'll find until you're standing in it. It's a working landscape rather than a manicured nature spot - rough grassland, scrubby woodland, and enough birdsong to make you stop and listen properly.

What you're looking at here is chalk grassland that's been left to its own devices, which means spring wildflowers if you time it right, and the sort of insect life that gets ecologists genuinely excited. There's a stream running through it as well, so it's proper habitat rather than just a pleasant walk.
