Solva Woollen Mill

The old mill at Solva still has its looms running, which is genuinely unusual these days. You can watch wool being carded, spun and woven into blankets and throws using traditional methods - the sort of thing that usually exists only in museums, except here it's still an active workshop. The building itself is compact rather than grand, perched in this little corner of Pembrokeshire where the countryside folds down towards the coast near Haverfordwest.

It's the kind of place that works brilliantly if you're interested in craft and textiles. Kids under eight might lose patience after twenty minutes; teenagers with zero interest in how things are made will find it dull. But if someone in your group actually cares about the process - or you're the type who gets proper excited about well-made blankets - you could easily spend an hour here. The shop stocks the finished products, which do look the business.

Timing-wise, ring ahead before you visit since opening hours aren't straightforward. It's free to watch the weavers work, though obviously they'd appreciate it if you bought something. Location-wise, you're minutes from Haverfordwest and well-positioned for exploring the coast. Pembrokeshire Meadows Camping is just over three miles away, making this an easy addition to a park-based holiday if you're keen on the slower, craft-focused side of Pembrokeshire rather than just beach runs.
