Snarkhurst Wood

Snarkhurst Wood is a proper woodland walk just outside Maidstone - the sort of place that rewards you for bothering to leave the main road. It's mostly beech and oak, dense enough that you lose sight of civilisation within minutes, which is saying something for Kent. The paths are well-trodden but not overcrowded, and there's enough shade to make a summer visit genuinely pleasant rather than just sweaty.

For walkers, it's a solid hour or two depending on how thoroughly you want to explore. Families with kids will find it engaging enough - no major attractions, but the trees themselves are the draw, and children generally don't mind that. History enthusiasts might find less to grip onto than at some other woodlands, but if you're just after fresh air and a break from caravan life, it does the job.

Being less than a mile from Bearsted Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, it's an obvious choice for campers staying in the area. The glamping options at Chegworth Mill and Glaming @ Rankins Farm are also within easy reach if you want something more polished. The wood itself appears to be freely accessible - no obvious gates or fees - though facilities are minimal, so bring water. Best visited when the ground isn't waterlogged; autumn colours are decent if you time it right. Nothing revolutionary, but a useful stretch of legs when you're based nearby.
