Snapes Point National Trust Car Park

The car park at Snapes Point isn't much to write home about on its own - it's a functional pull-in near Kingsbridge - but it exists for one proper reason: access to one of South Devon's best coastal walks. You're parking up to head out along the cliffs, and the views are genuinely worth the drive.

The walk itself is what matters here. You get the South Devon coastline laid out in front of you, with the sort of uncluttered views that remind you why people bother with the south-west. On a decent day it's cracking, and even in average weather the walk's short enough that you won't regret the effort. Allow between one and two hours depending on your pace and whether you stop to actually look at things.

Families with children will do fine here - it's accessible without being trivial, and kids generally like coastal paths where there's something to spot at the end. Serious walkers might find it a bit tame compared to longer routes in the area, but it's brilliant for a morning outing if you're based at one of the nearby campsites.

If you're staying at Wilton Farm Camping or Karrageen - both within three miles - this is an obvious choice for a leg-stretch. The National Trust runs the car park, so it's reliable and well-maintained. Just get there early in summer holidays or you'll be fighting for a space. The walk works year-round, though autumn light makes it something special.
