Families with young children might find it a bit dull unless they're already keen on Roman Britain, but walkers heading between Northumberland Nook and other moorland spots will find it worth the detour. Free to visit, naturally. Go when the weather's clear - the mist can roll in fast here, and stumbling about trying to spot Iron Age ditches in fog loses its charm quickly. It's the kind of site that sticks with you more after a visit than during one, especially if you pair it with somewhere like Hadrian's Wall further north to get the broader context.
