Skulberts Hill

The walk up Skulberts Hill rewards you with proper views across Wharfedale and towards Pendle Hill - on a clear day you can see for miles. It's not a massive summit by any stretch, but it's the kind of spot that locals know and visitors miss, which makes it all the better.

You're looking at a straightforward fell walk from Skipton, manageable for anyone with decent fitness and proper boots. The path winds through moorland with stone walls marking the way, and it takes roughly an hour and a half up, depending on pace. Families with older kids will manage fine here; littler ones might struggle with the ascent. The real payoff comes at the top where you can pick out Skipton itself in the distance and watch weather systems roll across the Pennines.

Go in autumn if you can. Spring's lovely too, but the moors get hammered with visitors come summer. There's no café at the summit - pack a flask and something to eat. The nearest spot for post-walk refreshments is back in Skipton town centre.

If you're staying at one of the caravan parks within a few miles - Wharfedale, Coxons Farm, or Wood Nook are all close - Skulberts makes a solid afternoon outing. It works as a day-walk destination or combined with other trails in the area. Nothing fancy, nothing touristy. Just a good hill with a proper view.
