Sir Terry Pratchett, OBE

The late author's home near Beaconsfield is where Terry Pratchett wrote most of his Discworld novels - the ones that made him a household name. It's a private residence, so you can't actually go inside, but fans do make the pilgrimage to see the place where all that magic happened, where he sat typing away surrounded by his collection of suits of armour and curiosities.

This isn't a visitor attraction in the traditional sense. There's no gift shop, no opening hours, no admission fee because there's nothing official to visit. What you get instead is the chance to stand outside a rather ordinary-looking house in the Buckinghamshire countryside and think about how one person's imagination created an entire world that millions of people have fallen in love with. It's the sort of thing that matters more to devoted Pratchett readers than to casual passers-by.

If you're staying at one of the nearby camping spots - Penn Meadow Farm is closest at just over a mile away - you could easily wander over as part of a broader walk around Beaconsfield. The town itself has enough charm to make it worth a proper visit. A Pratchett fan would drive out of their way for this; everyone else would probably skip it unless they're already in the area. The appeal is entirely sentimental, which is exactly as it should be for a place tied to an author so beloved.
