Sherbrook Valley

The valley floor at Sherbrook is proper woodland - dense, quiet, and a proper contrast to the flat farmland around Rugeley. Walk in from the upper paths and you drop into a landscape that feels genuinely remote, though you're only a few miles from town. The stream runs year-round, and if you time it right after rainfall, it's got real presence as it cuts through the valley sides.

This is walker territory, not a destination with a visitor centre or cafe. You're looking at a couple of hours minimum to do it justice - longer if you're exploring the side paths that branch off toward the higher ground. The woodland mix changes through the seasons; spring brings bluebells in decent numbers, autumn's the real draw with the colour. Summer can feel a bit dense and buggy in the undergrowth.

Families with older kids will do well here - the paths are reasonably clear, though muddy in places, and there's genuine exploration to be had. Younger children might find it a bit samey if you're only doing an hour. Serious walkers use it as part of longer loops across the broader Cannock area.

Coming from The White Lodge or Canalside Camping puts you within easy striking distance - both are barely three miles away. It's the sort of place that works best if you're basing yourself locally for a few days rather than planning it as a single destination. Free access, no facilities, so bring what you need.
