Shelderton Hill

The walk up Shelderton Hill takes about forty minutes from Craven Arms, and it's one of those Shropshire ridges that rewards the effort without demanding mountaineer credentials. You get proper views across the county once you've climbed out of the town - rolling farmland stretches away in every direction, and on a clear day you can pick out the Long Mynd and the Stiperstones in the distance.

It's a straightforward ascent rather than technical climbing. The path is well-trodden, the gradient manageable for families with older kids, though younger ones might find it a slog on their own steam. Allow a couple of hours for the round trip if you're not rushing. The summit itself is quite peaceful - you won't find crowds here like you might on some of the bigger Shropshire peaks.

Historically, this area is serious walking country, and Shelderton fits naturally into a broader exploration of the Shropshire Hills. If you're based at one of the local glamping sites - Shropshire Hills Glamping or Monstay Farm are both within easy striking distance - this works as a morning or afternoon excursion before heading to somewhere like Wayside Camping's neighbouring walking routes.

Best visited outside peak holiday weeks if you prefer solitude. The approach from Craven Arms is straightforward enough, though parking can be tight on summer weekends. Real hillwalkers will find it a nice leg-stretcher rather than a serious challenge, which makes it ideal for anyone wanting exercise without committing to a full day's hiking.
