The woodland at Sheepwalk Plantation stretches across Oxfordshire in proper dense fashion - all towering conifers and the sort of quiet that makes you actually hear yourself think. It's not a manicured park or a visitor attraction with a gift shop; it's genuine working forest, the kind where you can lose an afternoon wandering between the trees without seeing another soul.

The main draw here is straightforward: if you want to walk among tall pines and let the kids burn off some energy without worrying about them running onto a main road, this does the job. The paths are reasonably well-trodden, though muddy in places after rain. You can easily spend two to three hours poking about, though it's not the sort of place you'd plan a whole day around unless you're genuinely into woodland ecology.

It works particularly well as a half-day add-on if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots - Nordic Glamping at Botswicky is just 3.6 miles away, or Evelyns Garden Glamping a bit further out. Either makes for an easy morning jaunt before heading back for lunch. Families with primary-school-age children will get more out of it than teenagers; there's enough woodland interest to keep younger eyes engaged, but nothing flashy enough to compete with screens.

Near Botswicky Copse, so the village facilities are close by for provisions. Free to access, no obvious visitor infrastructure - bring a map or know roughly where you're heading. Go on a crisp autumn morning if you can.
