Sgurr Na Sgine NW top

The northwest top of Sgurr Na Sgine sits at around 945 metres, offering views that properly justify the graft to get there. You're looking across the Five Sisters ridge towards the Sound of Sleat, with Skye clearly visible on a decent day. The walk itself is no stroll - it's steep, rocky in places, and the descent demands respect, but that's rather the point.

Most people tackle this from Kyle, which sits handily at sea level about 4 miles away. You'll need a good three to four hours minimum, longer if the weather turns sketchy or you're moving cautiously on loose scree. There's no path to speak of once you leave the main track, so proper hill sense and a map are essential. This isn't a family amble with small kids in tow.

What you get for the effort is solitude, mostly. The ridge draws walkers, but the northwest top itself sees far fewer boots than the main peaks. On a still morning, with mist clearing from the glen below, it's genuinely special - that feeling of standing above everything, wind in your face, knowing you've earned the view.
