About Sgurr na Forcan
What you get for your effort is genuinely rewarding. The summit sits at just over 980 metres, which doesn't sound like much until you realise how suddenly it rises from the valley floor. On a clear day, the views west towards the Kintail ridges are exceptional - proper mountain scenery, the kind that reminds you why the Highlands are worth the midges and the weather. The scramble itself demands some handholds and a bit of careful footwork, so it's not a walk for nervous types, but experienced hillwalkers will find it exhilarating rather than dangerous.
Allow four to five hours for the round trip from Glenshiel if you're doing just Sgurr na Forcan. The Glenshiel Campsite sits three and a half miles away and would make a solid base - you'd wake up virtually at the trailhead. Spring through to September is best; winter can bring ice and avalanche risk that makes this ridge genuinely dodgy.
It's not the easiest peak in the Highlands, and it's not meant to be. Go if you want a proper scramble with views that justify the sweat.
