Sgurr an Iubhair

The walk up Sgurr an Iubhair demands respect. This isn't a casual stroll - it's a proper mountain that rises sharp and serious above Glen Coe, offering one of the finest ridge walks in the Highlands if you've got the legs for it.

You're looking at a full day's commitment here, minimum five hours round trip from the car park near Fort William. The ascent starts steep and relentless, climbing through moorland before the ridge proper kicks in. That's where the magic happens. Once you're up there, the views across Glen Coe and towards Ben Nevis are genuinely breathtaking - the kind that makes your phone camera feel pointless.

This is walkers' terrain, full stop. Families with young children will struggle; the scrambling sections need sure feet and a head for heights. But if you're fit, experienced, and the weather's playing ball, it's absolutely worth the graft. The rock underfoot can be loose in places, and afternoon mists roll in fast, so start early and bring proper kit.

Free to access, obviously - it's a mountain. The nearest decent base is Fort William, though Linnhe Lochside Holidays sits just 5.5 miles away if you want to combine this with a park holiday. That location would put you nicely for tackling the bigger peaks in the area without too much driving.
