Sgùrr nan Saighead

Getting to the summit of Sgùrr nan Saighead means a proper hill walk through some of the Highlands' most dramatic terrain. This is a peak that demands respect - we're talking around 982 metres of elevation with no messing about. The approach from Kyle takes you through wild, open country where the views only get better as you climb higher. On a clear day, you can see across to Skye and down towards the coast. There's nothing built up here, no visitor centre, no cafe - just you, the mountain, and whatever the weather throws at you.

This is absolutely one for serious walkers rather than casual ramblers. The path isn't maintained in any formal sense, and navigation matters when mist rolls in. Allow four to five hours for a round trip depending on fitness and conditions. Summer and early autumn are sensible choices when daylight stretches longer and weather tends toward less chaotic.

If you're basing yourself at Glenshiel Campsite - which is only a couple of miles away - Sgùrr nan Saighead makes an excellent day's objective for the second or third day of your stay. The campsite itself is well-positioned for exploring this corner of the Highlands. The mountain rewards effort with genuine solitude and views that justify every blister. It's not a walk for the faint-hearted, but if you've got the legs for it, the experience stays with you.
