Severn view

The Severn snakes through Shropshire with proper drama, and this viewpoint above Bewdley captures it at its best. You're looking down at the river as it curves through the valley - water glinting between trees, the landscape rolling away in all directions. It's the kind of spot where you actually understand why people settled here centuries ago.

The walk to get here is gentle enough for most people, though the path can be muddy after rain so decent footwear matters. Give yourself half an hour to properly stand about and take in the view without rushing. On a clear day the perspective stretches far enough to make the effort worthwhile. Families with younger kids won't struggle with the walk, though there's not much to actually do once you arrive - it's really about the looking, not the doing.

If you're camping or staying at Lodge Coppice Holiday Park just down the road, this makes an easy afternoon jaunt. Combine it with a proper walk along the Severn Way if you've got the time and legs for it. The viewpoint itself is free and always open, which is refreshing. It's not flashy or signposted to the hilt, which is partly why it still feels genuine. On weekends the car park can fill up with other walkers who know the area, but that's the price of somewhere actually good. Worth the detour if you're in Bewdley anyhow.
