Trimpley Reservoir

Water and woodland meet at Trimpley, a proper working reservoir that's become one of Shropshire's quieter spots for a walk and a bit of fresh air. You won't find theme park energy here - it's genuinely peaceful, with a good path running around the water's edge that takes in views across to the surrounding hills. The dam itself is worth seeing, all Victorian engineering and solid brick, and the whole thing feels less manicured than you'd expect for something built to supply the region with drinking water.

It works best for walkers and anyone after a gentle few hours outdoors rather than kids looking for thrills. The circuit takes a couple of hours depending on your pace, and it's accessible enough that older family members won't struggle. Bring binoculars if you're into birds - the reservoir attracts serious numbers of them, particularly in winter and during migration seasons. The spot near Bewdley makes it a natural fit with the other parks in the area - Bank Farm Holiday Park sits just 1.4 miles away, so you could easily slot it into a broader Shropshire break without adding much to your itinerary.

Timing matters. Weekday mornings are vastly better than weekends when the car park fills up. Spring and autumn are lovely, though winter has a certain stark appeal if you don't mind the chill. It's free to walk around, and there's decent parking, but don't expect facilities - there's no café or visitor centre to speak of. Perfectly decent for what it is, though it won't take your breath away.
