Seed Park

The woodland at Seed Park, just outside Preston, is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for - which is precisely why it works so well. It's proper forest, the kind with actual trees doing what trees do: blocking out the sky, dropping leaves everywhere, making you feel like you've left Lancashire behind entirely.

Walking through here is straightforward and undemanding. The paths are decent enough that you won't be scrambling over roots the whole time, though it's muddy after rain - standard woodland stuff. What you get is decent canopy cover, some genuinely quiet spots, and enough space to let kids burn off energy without worrying they'll wander into trouble. It's not dramatic or moody; it's just genuinely useful green space that actually feels like a forest rather than a park pretending to be one.

Really, it's the kind of place that justifies itself as a morning outing if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Northwood Caravan & Holiday Park or Dale Hey Farm are both close by - rather than something you'd drive miles to see. Allow 45 minutes to an hour depending on how slow you want to go and whether the children decide to investigate every fallen log. Go on a weekday if you can; weekends can bring the crowds from Preston.

It won't blow your mind, but it's honest and it works. Sometimes that's exactly what you need.
