Seamab Hill

The walk up Seamab Hill from Dollar is steep, proper steep, but the reward is a view that stretches across the Ochil Hills and down into the Devon Valley. It's not a long climb - most people manage it in under an hour - but you'll feel your legs working, especially if you've come straight from a café in Dollar town.

What makes this worth doing is the sense of being somewhere genuinely quiet. You won't find crowds here. The path isn't manicured or over-marketed; it's a proper hill for people who want to walk rather than Instagram. On a clear day you can see right across Fife, which beats most of the better-known Ochil summits because you're not jostling for space with half of Edinburgh.

Families with older kids will manage fine. Younger ones might find the gradient tedious, and there's not much at the top except grass and sky, so don't expect play areas or visitor facilities. Serious walkers treating it as part of a longer Ochil traverse will love it though.

The whole outing takes about two hours with a decent pace. Dollar itself is a proper little town with proper little cafés, so you can refuel afterwards. If you're staying at Fossoway Cabins or Meadow View just down the road, this makes an excellent half-day excursion that won't eat your entire holiday schedule. Start early though - the Scottish weather can turn fast, and mist can roll in and swallow the view completely.
