Sealyham Woods

Ancient oak and ash trees tower overhead in this proper woodland that sprawls across the countryside near Fishguard. Sealyham Woods offers the kind of deep forest walking that's become increasingly rare in Wales - no managed trails or visitor centres here, just genuine woodland exploration.

Families with older children will love the freedom to roam, though younger ones might find the uneven terrain challenging. Dog walkers consider this place gold dust. The woods connect to various footpaths that eventually link up with the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, making it excellent for serious hikers wanting to combine inland and coastal walking.

Expect to spend a couple of hours minimum if you want to do it justice. The trees are at their most spectacular in autumn, when the canopy turns proper russet and gold. Spring brings bluebells in patches, though not on the scale of some better-known woodland sites.
