Sandfield Golf Course and Driving Range

There's a proper driving range here on the outskirts of Chester, and the course itself is a solid test if you fancy eighteen holes without the faffing about of somewhere too upmarket. Sandfield offers both - the driving range if you're just wanting to loosen up or practice your swing, and a full golf course for the committed. The range is the main draw for casual visitors and families, honestly. Kids can have a go without needing membership, and you can burn an hour or two easily enough.

Golfers will find the course reasonably challenging without being punishing. It's the sort of place where you'll get a genuine game without pretension. Fair test of your game, good condition, and staff who won't make you feel unwelcome if you're not a scratch player.

If you're stopping at one of the caravan parks nearby - Birch Bank Farm is excellent and only 3.6 miles away, or Netherwood if you want something within walking distance of Chester itself - you could easily slot this in as a half-day activity. Check the website for green fees and whether you need to book in advance, but the range usually takes walk-ins. Allow a good couple of hours if you're playing the course, though the range alone can be done in 90 minutes. Best visited midweek when it's less heaving, particularly if you've got young kids keen to have a bash.
