Saint Stephen

The church sits on a quiet street in Presteigne, a market town that feels properly time-locked. Saint Stephen's is a medieval parish church with that reassuring solidity you get from centuries of Welsh stone - it's the sort of place where you half expect someone to pop out and remind you to whisper.

Inside, there's the usual ecclesiastical furniture - pews worn smooth by generations, a decent roof, and enough religious carving to keep you occupied for twenty minutes. The real draw for most visitors is the setting within Presteigne itself. It's not a showstopper like Tintern, but it's genuine and unvarnished, which matters.

Worth a stop if you're based at Presteigne Holiday Park - it's a two-minute stroll from the town centre - or if you're staying at Hush Hush Glamping or Rockbridge Park and fancy a morning wander before heading out walking. Don't expect to spend more than half an hour here unless you're seriously into church architecture. The town around it, though, has some decent pubs and shops worth lingering over.

It's free to enter and open during reasonable daylight hours. Brings a bit of structure to a Mid Wales trip if you're mixing countryside with cultural bits. Presteigne's compact enough that you can cover the essentials - church, high street, a coffee - in a couple of hours between hikes.
