Saint Mary Magdalene Albrighton

The church sits quietly on the edge of Albrighton, a short drive south of Shifnal, and honestly it's the sort of place you'd miss if you weren't looking for it. Saint Mary Magdalene is a proper medieval parish church - the kind with genuine character baked into its stonework rather than the polished, over-restored feel of some village churches.

What strikes you first is the tower. It's sturdy, unpretentious, and dates back to the 15th century. Inside, there's some decent ecclesiastical detail - the sort of thing that appeals to architecture enthusiasts and local history types more than casual visitors. The interior feels lived-in rather than museum-like, which is refreshing.

This isn't a spectacle church. You won't spend hours wandering around, and it's certainly not a draw on its own merit if you're planning a week away. But if you're camped at Worfe Camping or Oakland Holiday Park - both exceptional sites a few miles north - and you're taking a morning drive through the Staffordshire countryside, it's well worth a quick stop. Twenty minutes max, but the kind of twenty minutes that reminds you why these villages matter.

Access appears straightforward and free. Go on a weekday if possible - quieter, and you'll get a better sense of the place without tour groups moving through. The surrounding villages offer far more in terms of food and services, so plan accordingly.
