Saint Bartholomews

A squat stone church sitting quietly on the edge of Shifnal, Saint Bartholomews has the sort of solid, no-nonsense look that makes you think it's been here far longer than it probably has. The building itself is mostly Victorian restoration work, but there's genuine medieval bones underneath - the kind of place where you can actually feel the weight of centuries if you're into that sort of thing.

Inside, it's all dark wood and high ceilings. The detail work is decent enough - nothing that'll take your breath away, but proper craftsmanship nonetheless. If you're walking the Shifnal area or based at Oakland Holiday Park or High Onn down the road, it's worth a quick look, maybe fifteen minutes tops. You'll find it open most daylight hours, though it's worth checking ahead if you're making a specific trip.

Historically minded visitors will get more from it than casual tourists. Families with young children might find it a bit dull unless they're the type to actually read the plaques. The church works best as part of a wider Shifnal wander rather than a destination in itself - combine it with a stroll around the town centre and you've got half a decent morning.
