Saint Andrew Church, Feniton

The church sits right in the village, its stone tower rising above the houses and fields around Feniton. It's a proper medieval affair - Saint Andrew's has been standing here since at least the 15th century, and you can tell from the way the walls lean slightly and the windows don't quite line up. The interior is surprisingly spacious, with a few decent carved details if you look closely at the pews and font. Nothing flashy, but honest work.

It's the kind of place that rewards a ten-minute wander rather than a lengthy pilgrimage. The graveyard's pleasant enough - old stones scattered about, some readable, most weathered to blankness. In summer the grass gets a bit wild, which is actually rather nice. Village churches like this one work best if you're staying nearby and want to tick off a bit of local history between pub lunches and walks.

From West Hill it's only a short drive, making it an easy addition to a wider circuit of the area. If you're glamping at Cuckoo Down Farm nearby, this is the sort of place you pop into on a drizzly afternoon - exactly the kind of quiet corner that makes Devon villages feel proper. Free to enter, no fussing about. Spend half an hour here, tops, unless you're really into medieval architecture. Locals seem to maintain it with care, which speaks well.
