Pixies' Parlour

A small cave tucked into the Devon coastline near West Hill, Pixies' Parlour is exactly what its name suggests - a modest natural hollow that local folklore has dressed up in fairy tales. There's not much to it, frankly, but that's partly the charm. You get a decent scramble down coastal paths to reach it, squeeze inside for a few minutes, and that's your lot. The real appeal is the walk itself and the bit of theatrical local history rather than anything you'll find underground.

Families with younger kids who enjoy a coastal ramble will get something out of it, though don't expect them to be amazed by what's actually in the cave. It's the story that entertains more than the geology. The surrounding coast around West Hill is genuinely pleasant for a wander, so bundle it into a longer clifftop hike rather than making it the destination itself.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Cuckoo Down Farm Glamping is closest at just over a mile away, or Ladram Bay a bit further - it's a worthwhile afternoon excursion. Take proper footwear; the paths can be muddy and the approach is a bit uneven. There's no entrance fee that I'm aware of, and you can do the whole thing in under two hours including the cave visit. Go on a clear day when the views actually matter, because on a grey afternoon the coastal paths lose their appeal.
