Rowington Coppice

The coppice sits just outside Warwick, a proper woodland patch that doesn't announce itself loudly but rewards anyone after a straightforward forest walk. What you're getting here is old-growth woodland management in action - hazel and other mixed hardwoods in various stages of regrowth, the sort of landscape that's been cropped and coppiced for centuries. It's genuinely quiet, which is the whole point.

You'll want sturdy boots because the ground stays damp, and paths aren't manicured. This isn't a destination attraction - it's a solid two-hour outing if you're camping at Mousley House Farm just down the road, or mixing it into a broader Warwickshire walking circuit. Families with younger kids might find an hour enough; serious walkers will appreciate the proper woodland feel without the weekend crowds you'd get at managed country estates.

Timing-wise, spring is obvious for bluebells, but honestly autumn's better if you can manage it - fewer insects, better light through the canopy, and you get the coppice wood itself, which is workable. Winter's waterlogged and February's grim. The place is free to access as far as I can tell, though it's not formally marketed.

Fit it alongside a stay at one of the local camping spots and it rounds out the area nicely. Warwick itself is close enough for a proper day out, so this works as a morning walk before heading into town. It's the sort of place that appeals to forest types rather than instagram types - and there's nothing wrong with that.
